Appears with ‘Vande Matram’ prefix

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday said the community was shocked over the change in the name of Dyal Singh College to Vande Matram Dyal Singh College.

He said the community was upset over “the intrigues of Dyal Singh College chairman Amitabh Sinha and Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi, who have jointly connived to change the name of college from Dyal Singh College and changed it to Vande Matram Dyal Singh College”.

Mr. Sirsa said it was shocking for the whole country, particularly the Sikh community, as Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar had assured the nation in Parliament that the name of the college will never be changed.

Mr. Sirsa expressed outrage after seeing photos of the annual day celebrations of Dayal Singh College. The backdrop in the photos read “Vande Matram Dyal Singh College”.

‘Not official change’

A college official, however, clarified that there was no official change in the name of the college. He added that since Dyal Singh College (Evening) had become a morning college it had become hard to distinguish between the two colleges and thus Vande Matram was added as a prefix to differentiate between the two in the backdrop at the function.
