Apple has introduced a new “iPhone out-of-warranty battery replacement credit” programme. Under the new plan, Apple is offering a credit of Rs 3,900 to customers who paid for an out-of-warranty battery replacement for iPhone 6 or later devices between January 1, 2017 and December 28, 2017.
In December last year, Apple admitted that it had deliberately slowed down some older iPhones with worn out batteries. The company faced major backlash from users around the world. Later, Apple introduced a battery replacement service for users across the world. In India, the company charged Rs 2,000 (plus taxes) for any user with an iPhone 6 or later, whose battery needs to be replaced.
The latest programme seems to be an extension of the older programme as it aims to cover users who might have paid full amount for the battery that were out of warranty. If you are among them, here’s what you need to know.
You will be eligible for Rs 3,900 credit if the battery replacements were completed at an Apple authorized service location — Apple Store, Apple Repair Center, or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
The 3,900 INR credit will be provided as an electronic funds transfer or a credit on the credit card used to pay for the battery replacement service. Eligible customers will be contacted by Apple via email between May 23, 2018 and July 27, 2018 with instructions on how to obtain the credit,” Apple explains on its website.
Eligible customers who have not received an email from Apple by end of August 1, 2018 can reach out to Apple by December 31, 2018. “Note that proof of service at an Apple authorized service location may be required,” the website added.
Also note that iPhones with in-warranty battery replacement are not eligible for Apple’s new credit programme.
