Shane Watson scored an unbeaten 117 on Sunday evening to guide Chennai Super Kings to a comfortable eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and seal a third IPL title for the MS Dhoni-led side Shortly after hitting his second century of the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) season in Sunday’s final, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shane Watson hailed the franchise for giving him an opportunity despite his disappointing campaign with Royal Challengers Bangalore last year.

Speaking after the game, Watson said, “It’s just been a special season. To get an opportunity after my previous year was incredible.”

The Australian cricketer revealed that CSK wanted to play safe in the opening overs of their chase after a very disciplined started by SRH bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“Things fell my way nicely tonight but to be able to do it in such a big game, it’s very special. After those first ten balls, I was hoping to catch up. Wanted to get run-a-ball before getting out. Bhuvi was excellent so we had to see the first six overs without any damage. Once the ball stopped swinging, it got easier,” he said.

With the IPL season over, Watson says he will spend the next few months in recovery. “The good thing is I don’t have to play for a few months, so have some time to recover. The support with MS (Dhoni), (Stephen) Fleming and (Tommy) Simsek was excellent.”
